Here is our tentative schedule:

8:00 to 9:00 - Doors Open, Sign-In, and Coffee
9:00 to 9:30 - Introduce EdCamp and CrowdSource Workshops
9:40 to 10:20 - First round of workshops
10:30 to 11:10 - Second round of workshops
11:20 to 12:00 - Third round of workshops
12:00 to 12:30 - Closing and feedback

With EdCamps, the schedule is built after everyone arrives. Sessions are based on what is relevant to you in the now. Large, expensive conferences are decided a year in advance. People have already been notified that their proposal got accepted...for next year. But what if that topic isn't relevant next year?

EdCamps allow the flexibility to provide you with relevant, on-time, professional development. It isn't just about what someone wants to share. Its also about the questions others are asking. So sessions are built around two themes: Is there a best practice you would like to share with others? and Is there something you want others to share with you?

One of the main rules of EdCamp is this: Those that are supposed to show up are the ones in the room. One of the best "workshops" I attended in an EdCamp / Unconference was just me and the one who wanted to share. I was the only person that needed that topic, but I was enough.

Join us, and learn the things you need to learn.

If you are considering leading a workshop at EdCamp Knoxville, it would be helpful to know what is available in each room! So here is what we have:

  • SMART Boards
  • Apple TVs
  • Document Cameras

SMART Boards are equipped with a USB and VGA connection. If you have a Mac, you will need to either 1) bring your own VGA Dongle to connect to the projector, or 2) AirPlay your laptop directly to the Apple TV in the room.

It is NOT necessary to connect to anything to run a workshop. This is completely informal. Use the technology you need. If you don't need any, there is no pressure to use any.

"A Night of Learning Exchanges"

This was a more limited, activity-specific 90 minute event and not a full EdCamp. This was offered to anyone (educators and otherwise) as a single, pre-planned learning and networking experience. This is not a claim to any kind of EdCamp Knoxville name or logo. There are multiple interested parties helping to set up events like EdCamp and other unconferences in the Knoxville, Tennessee and East Tennessee areas. Please consider adding to discussion here about the possibility of recurring EdCamp events that are more full and able to capture the EdCamp spirit.

If you are interested in more full EdCamps in Knoxville (presentations decided day-of, anyone encouraged to present, highly interactive, celebrates what everyone brings to the table, all day free and catered event, etc.), here are some more resources:
